Hugh Joseph Mattie

Mattie, Hugh Joseph, 69, of Heatherton Antigonish County, passed away on August 8, 2010 at home. Born in Monastery, he was the son of the late Hubert Francis and Mary Margaret (Smith) Mattie.

Hughie was a boilermaker having worked across Canada and the United States in construction. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union and the Boilermakers Union, Local 73. Family was everything to him and "Papa" was special to all of his grandchildren. Hughie was a big "Habs" fan, and loved to play crib. He was great to visit neighbors and lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

 He is survived by daughter Sonya (Wilfred) Bowie, Afton; sons: Gary (Phyllis), Antigonish; James (Andrea) Heatherton; grandchildren: Courtney, Katie, Jenny, Wilfred Jr. Bowie; Justin, Megan, Dylan, Stephanie, Anna Mattie; Joshua and Matthew Sampson; great grandson: Jesse Mattie;
sisters: Nellie Cypher, Antigonish; Barb(Billy) Snow, Havre Boucher; Iris, (Paul) Stanley, Havre Boucher; Bonnie (Billy) Ryan, Grimsby, Ontario; Gail Mattie, Edmonton; Della(Wilfred) Myette, Tracadie; Tracy Mattie, Halifax; brothers: Lyle (Cathy), Loch Katrine; Gerard (Audrey) Antigonish; Garnet ,Edmonton; Wayne (Alice) Bayfield; David (Anita) Monastery; Brad (Bernadine) Pleasant Valley, Antigonish County; sister in law, Brenda Mattie.

He was predeceased by his wife Anne (Armstrong); brothers: James, Blaise, Allan and Melvin; sister, Catherine "Togie".

Visitation Wednesday 7 to 9pm and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St,  Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10:30am, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton with Rev. Charles Cameron presiding. Burial held in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association. The family would like to thank Hughies "special Angel" Melissa and also June Davieau for helping him stay in his home.
