Carol Ann Mattie
1974-2012
Mattie, Carol Ann, 38, Dartmouth.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Carol Ann "Care" Mattie on July 17, 2012. She was born in Saint John, NB, the daughter of Fred Mattie and Barb Carroll.
Born with a congenital heart defect, Carol Ann was a survivor. She lived each day knowing it was a gift. She was unable to attend traditional high school, but she was passionate about education and did not want limitations imposed on her because of her health. She attended FLECS Adult Education in Dartmouth and obtained her high school diploma graduating Valedictorian in 2008. Care was a social butterfly and connected with family and friends all over. She was very loving, and well loved. She truly cared about others and always wanted to let others know they were important to her. She had an infectious smile and a warm and kind personality. Her family made her very proud, and she glowed when talking about her step children. She had a very strong bond with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and nephews; especially her nephew Jacob.
She is survived by her parents, Fred Mattie, Antigonish and Barb Carroll, Dartmouth; brother: Troy (Laura), Airdrie, AB and their children, Kale of Antigonish; Matthew, Benjamin and Jacob of Airdrie, AB; brother Michael, Dartmouth and his children Dawson and Freddy of Antigonish; common law spouse Thayne McDow and step children Sydney, Bailey and Jared; grandmother Marguerite "Peggy" Rosella Mattie, Antigonish; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by her grandparents Hubert"Anthony" Mattie; Ernest "Red" and Florence "Babs" Carroll and her uncle Paul Mattie.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on Saturday, July 21st from 7 to 9 pm and Sunday, July 22nd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral mass will be held Monday in St. Ninian's Cathedral at 10:00 am with Reverend Tom MacNeil presiding.
