Van de Valk, Andrea Maureen, 59, of Antigonish. Taken from us much too soon, after a lengthy battle with breast cancer, Maureen's 23 year battle is finally over.

Born November 10, 1953, Maureen was the youngest child of Murray and Mary Miller.

Maureen was always smiling, never complaining, and fiercely independent to the very end. Maureen will be sorrowfully missed by family and her many friends. Her TOPS pals' support was a mainstay in her life ,but her pride and joy, Murray, her only son, defined her life as she got up. Maureen graduated from St. Martha's Regional Hospital as an RN in 1973, where she worked as a caregiver in her later years. Maureen had a unique talent with knitting needles and anything crafty and loved her puzzles.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Jo Lynn (Ian) Harrison, Truro; son Murray Van De Valk and his beloved Sarah Pottie, mother Mary Miller, New Glasgow; sisters Ann (Doug) MacKay, Aulds Cove and Lynn (Robert) Simpson, Dartmouth; brother Brian Miller, New Glasgow ; special nephew Wayne Fraser, Thorburn.

She was predeceased by her father, Murray Miller and sister Molly Fraser.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service will be held in C.L.Curry Funeral home on Thursday at 10:00 am with Reverend Peter Smith presiding.

A very special thank you to Reverend Peter Smith, Sr. Catherine, and the many nurses at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, especially the Oncology nurses, for their special care and compassion.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society - Antigonish Branch. Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
