Druhan, Benny, age 62. In a
stunning change of character, Benny did something quietly early
Tuesday morning, going gently into that good night at his home in
Ashdale. The don’t-call-me-late Mr. Druhan was the
quintessential community man who loved to spend time with people,
sharing foolish stories and having a few good laughs. Ben
was an avid reader, owing to his curiosity and a desire to understand
the circumstances of others and the world around him. He was also an
exacting perfectionist, ensuring that any job worth doing
was done with care and attention, whether it was at home in
his yard, in the garage with his cars, or on the job site at Weeks
Construction. Dad loved people. Over a cup of tea, a game of crib, or
at the farmer’s market, Benny could be found holding sway
over an expectant listener, deftly working his way toward a well-honed
punch line, and the chorus of laughter that was sure to follow. This
love extended to the community as a whole, where Ben’s
pragmatism, hard working attitude and desire to make things better
made him a cornerstone of any effort to improve the community,
including his thorough involvement in the completion of the
St. Joseph’s Lakeside Community Centre. But most of all,
Grampie’s love was clearest to his family, who were witness
to the countless acts of kindness, the endless support, and the
uncanny ability he had to put people at ease. Dad was a grown-up child
with a twinkle in his eye, who laughed and loved with an
intensity that left you with no doubt about your place in his heart.
