It is with great sadness that we announce the passing
of Chris Cameron of Silverwood Drive, Antigonish, who passed away on
January 23, 2016 in the ALC unit of St Martha's Regional Hospital with
her family by her side. Chris was born November 10, 1935 in Margaree
Harbour, NS and was the daughter of the late John L and Rebecca (Dunn)
MacKinnon.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years Roy
Cameron, son Robert Andrew, Halifax and daughter Krista Marie (Craig)
Jamieson, Guysborough. Chris is also survived by her brother Angus L
(Anne), Margaree Harbour, sisters, Marie (Jim Guilford)
and Sally both of Dartmouth. Also by her sisters-in-law
Marge MacKinnon, Dartmouth and Mary MacKinnon, Margaree Harbour,
brother-in-law Michael Leblanc, Margaree Harbour, and many nieces and
nephews.
Chris was a student at St Rita's School of Nursing in
Sydney, graduating in 1961. Prior to entering the nursing profession
she used her secretarial degree in various positions in the Halifax
area. As an RN she worked early in her life at the Victoria General
Hospital, Halifax and later assumed various roles at St Martha's
Hospital, Antigonish as well as a brief teaching role at St Martha's
School of Nursing. Over the years Chris' love for helping others
continued outside of work where she was a member of St Ninian's CWL,
St Ninian's Parish Council, Hospitality Minister, Eucharistic Minister
and Lecturer. She also did volunteer work with the St Vincent De Paul
Society and was Co-coordinator for St Ninian's Home Visiting for a
period of six years. After her retirement in 1995 time was mostly
spent between her cottage in Malignant Cove, where she entertained
many friends, and her old family home in Margaree Harbour, a place she
loved dearly.
Chris was predeceased by brothers Myles and John L and
sister Carmella.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving care
she received while in the ALC unit at St Martha's. Dr. Cooper and all
the caring and loving staff, we can not thank you enough for all that
you have done and also to Dr. Michelle Murphy for her life long care.
Visitation will be held Wednesday January
27th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 in C.L. Curry
Funeral Home, 135 College St, Antigonish. Funeral mass to be held
Thursday January 28th at 1 pm in St Ninian's
Cathedral, Antigonish with Father Donald MacGillivray
presiding..
