Kenny-Long, Meredith
"Mardie", 73, Antigonish. It is with great
sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear, sweet, and beloved
mom, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. Mardie passed away after a
brief illness on February 5, 2016, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
Mardie grew up in Erinville, Guysbrough County. She was the
youngest daughter of the late John and Ann Elizabeth (McDonald) Long.
Mardie was a tiny person in stature, but her heart was
enormous. She could never say "no" to anyone in need. She
was always there for everyone. You could find Mardie beside you in
whatever was going on in your life: a constant source of
encouragement, support, and comfort. Mardie invented the label
"strong and liberated". She lived the words
"mother" "friend" and "survivor" She
exemplified love, goodness, and courage, and wanted the best for her
family. Nanny "Mar" was a strong, independent woman who
never gave up fighting. Her children and grandchildren were her world
and she loved them unceasingly. Her standards were high, her love
unfailing, and her friendship had no bounds. Her huge heart became
tired and she had to rest.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Johnny (Tracy),
Ottawa; daughters: Karen Kenny, Antigonish; Darlene (Paul) Dempsey,
Whitby, Ont.; Sharon (Brian) Blanchard, Halifax; brothers, Leo,
Springhill and Clarence, Salmon River; 13 grandchildren: Ashley, John,
Justine, and Rory Kenny; Christopher, Steven, and Matthew MacInnis,
Kate Avery; Adam and Katherine Dempsey; Caitlain, Aidan, and Alison
Blanchard; great-granddaughter, Madison. Mardie was blessed to be part
of a huge extended family on both the Long and Kenny sides and
everyone was very dear to her. She will be greatly missed by many
nieces, nephews, and in particular niece and lifelong friend, Bev
Renny.
She was predeceased by her former husband and father of her
children, Douglas Kenny; brother, Joseph; sisters: Peg Doyle, Jean
Ready, Helen Farrell and Laura Frizzell; sisters in law: Annabelle,
Irene and Claire Long; brothers in law; Vince Doyle, Tom Ready, Matt
Frizzell, and Greg Farrell.
