Van de Sande, Shawn Roderick,
32, Toronto, formerly of Antigonish. We are deeply saddened
to announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, Shawn Roderick
Van de Sande. He passed away unexpectedly in Toronto on April 3rd,
2016 at the age of 32.
Shawn was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on
February 16, 1984. The youngest of 4 siblings, he had a uniqueness
that made him stand out among the crowd, and those closest to him knew
just how big his heart was. He was a gifted musician who discovered
and cultivated a love of music from a young age.
He picked
up his first guitar when he was 9 years old and pursued his natural
talent relentlessly,
attending music camps, concerts and
jamming with friends throughout High School. For the past 10 years
Shawn lived in Toronto, where he pursued his career as a Red Seal Chef
and harvested his love of music by joining the band The Appollo
Effect. From there he collaborated with his band mates to write an
album which took them on tour. Shawn's love of food and the arts
landed him at various catering companies within Toronto and more
recently, Australia. His hunger for adventure took him on many
travels. He was a self described gypsy, always planning his next
adventure. Shawn was active within the Crossfit Community in Toronto,
training hard and engaging in competitions.
His goofy sense
of humour and quick wit had all of his family and friends in stitches.
Those who knew him well will fondly remember his Ghostbusters
obsession, multiple impersonations, quirkiness and off colour sense of
humour. He had a young spirit, gentle heart and kind soul. Our loss
cannot be measured, and he will be deeply and forever
missed.
Shawn is survived by his parents Bill and Rhodena
Van de Sande, siblings Alicia Van de Sande (Lee Martin), Kyle Van de
Sande, and Denise Van de Sande (Michael Hare) and his nieces Ria,
Hannah and Maya, and nephews Simon and Liam.
Family will receive family and friends at C. L.
Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St. in Antigonish, NS. from 1-4 pm on
April 14th.
Contributions in memory of Shawn can be made to your local
food bank. Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
