Van Oirschot, William Johannes, age 86, of Ashdale, Antigonish Co, passed away on May 21, 2016 in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born in Holland, he was a son of the late Michael and Anna Maria (Scheepens) Van Oirschot.

Bill immigrated from Holland in 1954 with his wife Adriana (Audrey). He first worked at Bethany and then purchased a farm in Ashdale in 1959 developing it into a successful dairy farm. He took great pride in his herd of purebred Holstein cattle and served the farming industry by participating on several boards and committees, including Nova Scotia Animal Breeders Association, Eastern Dairyfoods, Federation of Agriculture, and the Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition. He was co-founder of the Eastern Nova Scotia Holstein Club. Bill was a recipient of several longtime breeder awards from Holstein Canada. He was very active and involved in sports while growing up and that passion for following sports continued throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Adriana Van Alebeek; children: Anne Marie (Andy) Horne, Goffs, Halifax Co.; Gerry (Bonnie), Ashdale; Audrey (Keith) Dewar, Regina; Fran (Marc) Gallant, Halifax; Michael (Sandy), Ashdale; siblings: Joe (Anne), Pleasant Valley; Ida (John) Vermeer, Pleasant Valley; Anne (Frans) Van Rooy, Holland; Frans (Mien), Holland.

He loved and was a very special Opie to grandchildren Ian, Adam, Garett, Blair, Nancy, Kyla, Stephanie, Courtney, Scott, Lauren, Kathryn, Ryan, Carson, Tyler and six great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Wilhemenia, in infancy.

Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, on Tuesday, May 24th  from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 25th at 11:00 am in St. Joseph's Church, St. Joseph’s with Father Dan MacDonald presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
