DeCoste, Alva Margaret, 71 of Monastery, Antigonish Co. passed away July 7, 2016, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born in Antigonish she was the daughter of the late William Francis and Mary Agnes (O'Neil) Bowman.

In the early years Alva worked at the Acadia Fish Plant in Mulgrave. She and Bill moved to Ontario where she worked for many years. They returned to Monastery in the late 70's and Alva was then employed with Silver's Cleaners and Irving oil in Port Hastings. She retired from Levy's in Antigonish. She enjoyed snowmobiling and all outdoor sports. Alva also enjoyed music especially bluegrass festivals.

Alva is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill; brothers, Peter (Geraldine), Frankville; Tom (Susan), New Glasgow; sister, Donna (Tom) Delorey, Frankville; sisters-in-law: Kaye Gallant, Antigonish; Theresa Landry, Afton; Emma DeCoffe, Innisfil; Marjorie Valade, Vermillion Bay, Ont.; Mary Mattie, Heatherton; Helen Stewart, Havre Boucher; Eileen Moore, Monastery; brother's in law: John, Lower South River; Francis (Shirley), Tracadie; Edward, Halifax; Bernard (Sharon), Etobicoke, Ont.; Ernest (Shirley), Linwood; Everett (Marilyn), Thorburn; Ellsworth (Yvonne), Tracadie; Kevin (Frances), Afton.

Predeceased by brother Francis, sister-in-law Angela, brothers-in-law Lawrence and Jim and three in infancy.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm in St. Peter's Place, Tracadie.

Funeral Mass Tuesday, at 10:00 am in St. Peter's Church, Tracadie, Reverend John Barry presiding. Burial at a later date.
