Tobin, Ethel Mae, 83, of
Antigonish passed away peacefully on July 7, 2016 at home surrounded
by her loving family.
Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Colin and
Alice (Elliott) MacInnis.
For many years, Ethel enjoyed working for Gold Star Christmas
Tree Company and Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition. Previous to that she
was an operator with MT&T phone company.
She was the ultimate volunteer. She truly believed in giving
back to her community. Among her volunteer endeavors were St. Martha's
Regional Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the Progressive Conservative party
and her beloved Bulldog hockey teams. In 2005 she was honoured with an
induction into the Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame as volunteer of the
year. Her passion for sports continued on through the years as she
watched her grandchildren excel in hockey, baseball and horse back
riding. Ethel loved to travel and looked forward to her many trips
with her "twisted " sisters creating stories that can't be
shared.
She is survived by her devoted husband Carman; daughters,
Charmaine (Terrance) Bowman, Ashdale; Darlene (Jeff) Sullivan, New
Glasgow; Tracey (Basil) Pitts, Antigonish; daughter-in-law Jan Tobin,
Antigonish; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Mary
Hurst, Antigonish; Mable Sutherland, Stellarton; Betty Camillo, South
Carolina; Evey Fowler, Strathmore, Alberta; brother Billy, Trenton
Ont.; Barry, Brooks, Alberta.; Larry and Philip, both of
Antigonish.
She predeceased by her son Blaise, a child in infancy, sister
June Gaipo, brothers, Jackie and Buddy.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm Monday in
C.L.Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish. Funeral Mass will
be held on Tuesday at 2:00pm in St. Ninian's Cathedral, Antigonish
with burial in the parish cemetery.
