It is with great love and sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Hugh Martin (H.M.) MacDonald of Maryvale and Court Street, Antigonish.

Hugh Martin MacDonald passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 4, 2016 in Cobblestone of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish.

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Hugh and Tess MacDonald.

H.M. graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1953 with a degree in Education and began his teaching career in Edmonton, Alberta with the Edmonton Catholic School Board where he continued to work until his retirement in 1987. Following his retirement H.M.. moved back to Maryvale in order to pursue many of his passions, especially hunting and fishing.

H.M. is survived by his wife of seven years, Maurina MacNeil MacDonald; his children: Margaret Maley (David), Sharon Marouelli (Dan), Hugh MacDonald (Claudette), Rod MacDonald (Colleen), Darcy MacDonald, Danny MacDonald (Mary Anne), Mary MacDonald; 19 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 3 step children: Michael Cameron, Patrice Couture, Johnna Cameron and one brother, John MacDonald.

He was predeceased by his first wife Kay MacPherson MacDonald, his daughter Heather MacDonald and sisters: Helen MacIntosh, Bernie Strauss and Jean Cvetanovic.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 7th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be in St. Mary's Church, Maryvale on Monday at 11:00 am with Reverend Evo DiPierro presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery,
