Jeanette, age 77 of Pomquet, Antigonish
County,
passed away suddenly in St Martha’s Regional
Hospital, Antigonish on October 8, 2016
Jeanette is the daughter of the late Sterling and Eva Kaiser
(nee Bingley) and grew up as a fisherman’s daughter in Port
Bickerton, Guysborough County with 5 siblings; Tena (Clarence Benoit)
Sudbury, Ont.; Wendell (Mary), Porter’s Lake; Cyril
(Carole), Port Bickerton; Donna (Neil Friesen), Ontario; Robert (Uncle
Bobby), deceased
Later in life she moved to Sudbury where she met and married
our father, Bernard DeYoung. When her first child was 10 months old
they moved to Pomquet, NS and had 5 more children. There she raised
her 6 children and oldest grandchild, whom are all surviving:
Veronica(Gary Munro), St. Joseph’s; Sterling, St
Joseph’s; Roger, Pomquet; Corrina (Gerard DeCoste), Pomquet
Lake; Bobby, Pomquet Lake; Roxanne, Pomquet; and grand-daughter Amanda
(Adam) Boudreau, Pomquet
In her later years she was employed by Pomquet Pantry until
retirement. After our Dad passed away she took in and looked after her
Mom. She loved bingo, yard sales, tending to her flowers, her
‘stories’ and her little dog Benji. She loved to
tell stories about growing up as a fisherman’s daughter in
Port Bickerton and as kids we heard many ghost stories about living in
a remote fishing village in the 40’s and
50’s.
She is additionally survived by her grandchildren: Martina
Munro (Nathan MacGillivary), Michelle Munro (Darell Armstrong), Eric
Munro, BJ Sloan (Amanda Lawrence), Tanya(Shawn Boyle), Selena DeYoung,
Andrew and Sandy DeCoste; her great grandchildren, Liem and Owen
Boudreau; Samarah and Jaden Sloan; numerous nieces and
nephews
She is predeceased by husband Bernard (Ben) DeYoung; parents,
Sterling and Eva Kaiser; brother, Robert (Uncle Bobby)Kaiser; brother
and sister in law, John and Sheila Deon; brother and sister in law,
Martin and Elizabeth Sampson; brother in law, Allie Burns; grandchild,
Ben Munro.
Cremation has taken place. There is no visitation as per her
request. A service to honor her life will be performed by Father
Conrad Edwards at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in St Croix
Parish Church, Pomquet. Burial will take place following the service.
