Alice
Callahan, of Antigonish, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2016 at
St. Martha's Regional Hospital in the presence of her children. Born
March 1st, 1926 in South West Margaree, she was the daughter of the
late Hugh and Margaret (Coady) Gillis.
Alice
was a long time member of St. Ninian's Parish, and Stella Maris
Parish, Louisbourg. As a devout Catholic, she was a lifetime member of
the Catholic Women's League, a Eucharistic Minister, and a Catechist,
who maintained lifelong friendships with the Clergy. Alice was a
talented seamstress who enjoyed her years working in the costume
department at Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Park. She
prided herself on her baking, and enjoyed providing too many treats
for family and friends. She had an infectious laugh and was happiest
when sharing time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother,
grandmother and great
grandmother.
Alice
is survived by her sons Herbert (Ann) and Leo Callahan, Antigonish;
daughters Marilyn (Michael) MacDonald, Dartmouth and Bernice Callahan
(Bryan Inglis), Moncton. She is also survived by her sister Isabel
Cruickshank, of Dartmouth, and many nieces and nephews. Mourning the
loss of their Nanny are her grandchildren, Aaron (Tammy) and Andrew
Callahan, Jessica (Justin Parker) and Mackenzie Inglis, Lauchlan and
Liam MacDonald, and great-grandchildren Mason, Lily and Timothy
Callahan. Alice was predeceased by James, her husband of fifty years,
and her siblings: Johnny, Loyola, Annie Mae ( in infancy ), Pete,
Annie, Mose, Gertie, Frank, Alex and
Bernie.
The
family would like to recognize the years of caring and devotion
provided to Alice by her son Leo, and her physician Dr. Michael
MacKenzie. They extend a special thank you to Cassandra RN, of St.
Martha's ICU.
