Mattie, Hugh Matthew, 63, of Monastery, Antigonish County, passed away on October 14, 2016.

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of Gladys (DeCoste) and the late Francis Mattie.

Hughie had a tremendous presence and was known for his easy going nature and infectious laughter.  He was passionate about his family and had a zest for life.  Hugh was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed playing cards, and was quick with a joke and quick with an answer.  A millwright by trade, in recent years he was a fisherman, and had just successfully launched his company:  Cabot Oysters.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Marie (Campbell); children, Danielle (Robert) Hannigan, Russell, ON; Matthew (Shari), Hubley; Stephen, Monastery; grandchildren, Liam, Kaitlyn, and Andrew; siblings, Heather (John) Pettipas, Lower Sackville; Barbara (Edward) Bonvie, St. George, NB; Greg (late Norma), South River; Theresa (Eric) Goodyear, Ottawa; David (Laura), St. George, NB; and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by brothers, Donald, Roy, and Andrew.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm and Friday from 12 noon to 1:30pm in St. Peter's Place, Tracadie.  Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 2pm in St. Peter's Church, Fr. John Barry presiding.  Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.

In Memoriam, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Canadian Diabetes Association, or the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish.  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com
