Mattie,
Marie Anna Gertrude – Havre
Boucher
It is with bittersweet feelings that we
say farewell and see you later to our precious Aunt Marie,
"The Digby Chick", at the age of 90, joining her
soul mate Bernard who journeyed to his heavenly home 17 long days
ago.
Born in Princedale, she was a
daughter of the late Reginald and Josephine (O'Brien) Fraser.
In her early childhood, she lived in
Clementsport until a house fire claimed their home. They
then moved to Bear River also known as Little
Switzerland.
Marie lost her Mom to RA at an early age.
After a short time with her aunt in Boston, she moved to
Hamilton, Ontario where she worked for over 40 years as office manager
with Langley Parissien Ltd., working as long as it took to ensure
everything was balanced to the penny.
One such night after many penny searches
Pat, Marie's long-time friend and co-worker, left the her desk to take
a break to a window that overlooked one of the major Hamilton streets:
"Marie there's an elephant walking down the street". Marie's
father saw the same circus going, but going through the car wash. To
know Aunt Marie was to know how to have a good
laugh.
In 1978 Marie was diagnosed with breast
cancer and was given three months to get her papers in order. Now some
39 years later, she is still mad that they didn't stitch the main
parts back on.
Marie married her soul mate in 1982 and
lived in Hamilton for another 17 years in a house that Marie had
established before moving back to Bernard`s part of Nova Scotia on
May 3rd, 1999. On that day all foliage was in full
bloom.
Aunt was a proud and lifelong member of
the CWL and had a 50 year pin that she received many years
earlier.
Marie was the last surviving member of her
immediate family. She is survived by special cousin Joan (O`Brien)
Pickup and several other cousins; nieces, Karla Pickup and Jane
(Bruce) Ross of Digby; nephews, Albert (Shary), Canso; Peter (Linda)
of Digby , and Paul, Vancouver. She is also survived by many
nieces-and-nephews-in-law via her Mattie connection.
She was predeceased by her husband,
Bernard, her brother, Bernard; and sister-in-law Norma
(Ruggles) Fraser.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4
and 7 to 9pm in St. Paul's Centre, Havre Boucher. Funeral Mass will be
held Saturday at 11:00am in St. Paul's Church, Reverend Allan MacPhie
presiding. Burial in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Tracadie, in the
spring.
As per Marie`s request, family flowers
only, please. In Memoriam, donations to the SPCA or the Mulgrave CWL
or a charity of your own choice
appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are under the
direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish. Online condolences:
