MacDonald, Barbara
Ann, 67 - It is with deep sadness we
announce the death of Barbara Ann MacDonald of Antigonish, formerly of
Merland, on April 13, 2017 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital
with her daughter by her
side.
Born in Merland, Barbara was the daughter
of the late Edward and Mary (Breen) MacDonald. Barbara worked as a
Personal Care Worker at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home and most
recently as a Continuing Care Assistant at Bethany. She took great
pride in her work, cared deeply about her residents and formed lasting
friendships. In retirement, she planned to take courses at St. FXU
with the goal of mentoring and supporting young women.
Barbara
was a free spirit with sense of adventure. She had a keen sense of
humor, great style, a youthful outlook and loved being around people
of all ages. She played the button and piano accordion when it
wasn’t cool, loved dancing, long drives, bird watching and
travelling. Barbara had a love of animals beginning with a pet deer in
childhood. Over the years, she had horses, a pet goat, several cats
and dogs including her beloved "Mumpie" who will be waiting
for her on the other side.
She is survived by her companion
of six years Keith Wilson, Liscomb; daughter Edwina "Winnie"
(David) Ehler-Harris, Dutch Settlement; son Roger Ehler, Merland;
brothers Joe, Lower Sackville; Johnny (Linda), Hamilton Ontario;
Ronnie (Alvina), Afton; sister Viola (Frank)
Carmichael, Dartmouth; her special cousin
and "sidekick" Warren as well as many cousins, nieces and
nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by brother Jimmy
MacDonald.
The
family wishes to thank the staff of the Progressive Care (PCU),
Frances Chisholm RN, Sister Catherine MacGillivray and Drs. Howard,
Cooper, MacCormick and Fuhrman during this difficult time. Your
kindness will not be forgotten. Special thanks to Cheryl Peters,
Bethany House staff and to the many people
who visited and provided support. Thank
you
all.
Cremation has taken place. A
Celebration of Life Service will be held
at
C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Street, Antigonish on Thursday, April
20th, at 10:00
am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Palliative Care
Program.
