It is with great sadness we announce
that Sophie Giles (Novak) - Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother
- passed away peacefully at St Martha’s Regional Hospital,
Antigonish, on May 11, 2017.
Born April 1, 1922 in Glace Bay Nova
Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Francis and Josephine (Mazek)
Novak.
Sophie is survived by her children,
Faith (David) Clifford (Jean) and Jane (late Tom). She is also
survived by her 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, and 2
great-great grandchildren.
Predeceased by her loving husband,
Earl, to whom she was married to for 73 years; son, Arthur; and
daughter, Gail.
Sophie and Earl raised their 5
children in the home they built in Bedford. Sophie was a devoted and
active presence at St. Ignatius Church in Bedford. She and Earl
retired to Pomquet in 1974, which they called their little piece of
heaven. In Pomquet, Sophie was active in Ste. Croix Parish and the
Pomquet Seniors Centre. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother
and she was loved by many. She will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral
Mass will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday May 17th in Ste. Croix
Church, Pomquet, with Reverend Gary MacPherson
presiding.
In lieu of flowers donations can be
made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
