Mattie, Simon "Russell", 83, of Mattie Settlement, Antigonish Co., passed away on Monday, Sept 4th in Milford Haven Home for Special Care, Guysborough. 

Born in Mattie Settlement, he was a son of the late Simon and Hattie (Delorey) Mattie.

Russell was known for hauling and trucking pulp and hardwood, with his own trucking company, for over 30 years. After spending many long hours on the road with his truck, any spare time was spent in the woods cutting pulp, hardwood, or working on his Christmas trees. He was in many associations over the years dealing with the forestry industry. He loved to play cards, go to concerts, dances, and listen to fiddle music. He travelled to numerous places through the Maritime’s to Nfld, Ontario, Alberta, Florida and Boston.

He is survived by his children, Danny (Renata Bouchie), Afton; Wanda (Glenn) MacDonald, Afton; Carson, Linwood; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Marcus, Afton and Kiana, Ontario; sisters Kathleen (late Victor) Boucher, Williams Point; Josephine (late Edward) Tate, Mattie Settlement; Theresa (late Joseph) Guthro, Auld’s Cove; Dora (Clarence) MacDonald Auld’s Cove; sister-in-law Theresa Mattie, Antigonish, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Berkley (Louise) Mattie and Walter Mattie.

Visitation will be held in St. Peter’s Place, Tracadie on Wednesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 10:30am in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie, Reverend John Barry presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
