Thompson, Arden Chester "Tommy", 101, of Antigonish
passed away on November 1, 2017, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital,
Antigonish.
Born in Dawsonville, NB, he was son of the late Chesley Percy
and Ina (Gracie) Thompson.
Arden (Tommy), was a veteran of WWII and served in action in
Sicily, Italy and Holland with the 1st Medium Regiment of the Royal
Canadian Artillery. After the war he made Antigonish his home and
worked at Eastern Automobile Company Ltd. for over 30 years until his
retirement. His first love was for family, near and far. He had a
passion for all things aeronautical and learned to fly, obtaining his
private pilot’s license at the age of 58. He was
instrumental in the construction of two separate homebuilt airplanes,
which are both still flying today and was a member of the Experimental
Aircraft Association (EAA) for over 45 years. He was a hunter and was
known for marksmanship and earned the nickname
"one-shot-Thompson". He had a love of learning, a curious
creative and inventive mind and a positive attitude. He embraced life
and encouraged his children and grandchildren to follow their
interests.
He is survived by his children; Bernice Finley, Toronto;
Doris (Calvin) Nicholson, Dartmouth; Arden (Theresa) Thompson,
Arisaig; grandchildren, Ross Finley, Denice Nicholson, Danielle
Nicholson, John Thompson, Paul Thompson, David Thompson, Allan
Thompson, Ryan Thompson, and Mary Catherine Thompson; brothers, Bill
Thompson, Glenlevit NB, Tom Thompson, Kitchener ON.
Predeceased by his wife, Amy (Kaiser); sisters, Marie,
Mildred, Georgina, Joyce, Susan, Betty; brothers, Ralph and
Percy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday in St. Ninian
Cathedral at 11:00am. Burial in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mary Gorman, Dr. Bill
Booth, and the entire staff of the 3rd floor Veterans Wing of St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital for their care and
dedication.
