Smith, Vincent, 78, New France Antigonish
Co. It is with sadness that we announce the
passing of Vincent Smith, 78, of Antigonish, formerly of New France,
Antigonish County, with his loved ones by his side, at St Martha's
Regional Hospital, on November 5, 2017. Born in New France, he was the
son of the late John R. and Mary (Mamie) Smith. Vince worked for
several years at StFX University, where he was lovingly known as a
common prankster to many of his co-workers.
Vince is survived by his sisters: Theresa (Blaise) MacKenzie,
Espanola, Ontario and Mary (the late Don Ferriss), Dartmouth, NS as
well as several nieces and nephews; in particular, his niece, Brenda
Smith-Chisholm who loved and cared for Vince for the past few years
while he was a resident of Highland Crest Home, Antigonish, Port
Hawkesbury Nursing Home, and most recently the RK MacDonald Nursing
Home, Antigonish. Vince was predeceased by his infant daughter, Anne
Marie, brothers, Jackie, Neil, Jimmy, Stanley and Cecil, sister, Agnes
and Mary who died in infancy.
Vince was a man of few, and many words; If love was to be
shown, he smiled. If he disagreed with something, he spoke. He loved
animals, he was a die-hard Maple Leafs Fan, and loved his Toronto Blue
Jays. He truly enjoyed the company of the many friends that he made at
the Nursing Homes over the past several years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Crest
Home, who bonded with Vince and treated him like family when he lived
there for over 15 years. Also to the staff of Port Hawkesbury Nursing
Home and the RK MacDonald Nursing Home for the kindness and care
provided to Vince during his stay, and to Dr. Mary Gorman for her
continuous care for many years.
