Anastasia
"Ann"
Wallace, age 91,
Monastery, Antigonish Co. passed away on January 25, 2018 in St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born on January 13, 1927 she was the daughter of the late
William J. and Mary (Kenny) Wallace. Her entire life was spent in the
village of Monastery.
She was a professional teacher who graduated from the
Provincial Teacher’s College in 1947 and from Saint Francis
Xavier University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969, and a Masters of
Education in 1978. She taught at Avonside School in Monastery as well
as East Tracadie and Grosvenor and then for many years at Tracadie
Consolidated School. She retired as Vice Principal of Tracadie
Consolidated in 1983, after 37 years of teaching but continued to do
some tutoring. She loved writing. Her deep interest in local history
resulted in the publication of books about a number of small
communities including Monastery, Merland and Erinville.
She published three parish
chronicles including
the
history of St
Peter’s Parish (1803-2003), the
Holy Name Society and Tracadie Catholic
Women’s League. She also edited histories of
Auld’s Cove and Glencoe and most recently put together her
own memoir. Being a devoted Catholic, her volunteer time was mainly
spent on activities within St Peter’s Parish, the Catholic
Women’s League, Tracadie Seniors Club and Antigonish
Palliative Care. She was a very caring person and respected member of
her community. She lived a fulfilling life. She enjoyed reading
mystery stories, doing puzzles, playing cards, knitting/quilting and
laughing and chatting with her family and friends.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and
will be deeply missed by her closest surviving family members Marie
and Leanne MacDonald of Monastery, NS and Teresa Forestall of Markham,
ON.
Visitation will be in St. Peter’s Place Tracadie on
Sunday, January 28th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral mass will be in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie on
Monday at 11:00 am with Reverend John Barry presiding. Burial in the
parish cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to
