Styger, John, age 91 of Antigonish and Country Harbour passed
away on February 20, 2018 at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home,
Antigonish.
Born in Poland,
he was the son of the late Stanley and Theresa Styger. John came to
Canada at the age of seven. He lived his early years in Bridgeville,
Pictou County, moving to Ontario when he was in his early
20’s. His love for Nova Scotia returned him to Country
Harbour in the early 1950’s where he became self employed in
the forestry and construction industry. He operated a dance and pool
hall in Country Harbour for many years. John and his wife, Joan
"Verna", enjoyed their cruises and many winters in Florida.
John loved life and was especially proud of his four daughters, had a
great passion for tennis, loved to play snooker and go boating and
water skiing. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 68 years, Joan
"Verna" (Hudson) Styger; daughters, Marilyn (Brian)
Turnbull, Dartmouth; Carol (Mark) Alexander, Country Harbour; Shelley
(Tommy) Hayne, Antigonish; grandchildren; Karla, Scott, Olivia,
Deanna, Mark, Tara, Jana and Jamas; nine great grandchildren; brother
Frank (Beverly), Ontario.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah and brothers,
Tony and Walter.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will in C.L.
Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, on Saturday, June
16, at 2:00pm, Reverend Sue Channen presiding.
