Heffernan, Shawn Joseph, 50, of Antigonish passed away on June 13, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, in the new Palliative Care Unit of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, following an inspirational battle with brain cancer.

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of Francis and Mary "Minnie" (Greencorn) Heffernan.

A private person, Shawn was easygoing and enjoyed living a quiet life.  He loved his job at St. Martha’s Hospital and had worked there for close to 30 years.  He was proud of his service with the Kinsmen, having filled all of their executive positions.  Shawn was a huge Montreal Canadiens fan, and in November of 2017 he fulfilled his dream of attending a game.  Shawn was very knowledgeable and witty, he loved trivia, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, David (Eileen), Dunmore; sister, Lisa (John) MacDonald, James River; nieces, Andrea, Breanna, and Lauren; and nephews, Andrew and Brent.

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held Friday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.  At Shawn’s request, a private family funeral will be held.
