Chisholm-Barker Marguerite,
age 72 of Antigonish.
It is with great sadness that the family of Marguerite
Chisholm-Barker announce her death which occurred at St. Martha's
Regional Hospital on December 24th, 2018
following her 19-year battle with multiple myeloma. Marguerite
faced her illness and all challenges with an unwavering
strength and a positive attitude. Her courage and tenacity
were an inspiration to many.
Born in Antigonish and raised in Erinville, Guysborough
County she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Rose (Kelly)
Doyle.
Marguerite was a graduate of Teacher's College,
Truro. She taught in Eastern Passage and Calgary, but most
of her teaching years were spent at Morrison School and Braemore
Elementary. She was a dedicated teacher who loved her
students, especially her grade two classes. She also served as Vice
Principal of Braemore and Maryvale Schools. Marguerite loved
going on trips, dancing, playing cards and spending time with her
family. She was also an avid volunteer. Since retirement, Marguerite
volunteered at a number of organizations including the Look Good Feel
Good Program, Red Cross, St. Martha’s Café and
Meals on Wheels.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Gordon Barker;
daughter: Tanya (Kevin Reardon) Chisholm, Pomquet; sons: Stephen
(Kara) Chisholm, Truro; Shaun (Kathy) Chisholm, William's Point; Kyle
(Sylvia) Chisholm, Slave Lake, AB; grandchildren: Hannah, Linden,
Astrid, Olivia and George. Gordon's children: Gordie (Cheryl),
Whitehorse; Kyle (Shannon), Antigonish; Sean (Christine), St.Andrews;
Stephen (Lisa), Stellarton; sister, Carmel (Anthony) Benoit, Pomquet;
brothers: Henry (Cecile) Doyle, North Grant; Bernie (Darlene),
Halifax; sisters in law, Doreen Boudreau, Erinville; Margie Doyle,
Halifax; many nieces and nephews and her extended Chisholm
family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first
husband, Sandy Chisholm; brothers, Edward and Kevin
Doyle.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home 135
College Street, Antigonish on Thursday, December
27th, from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm to 9pm.
Funeral mass will be in St. Ninians Cathedral on Friday, December
28th, 2018 at 2pm with Reverend Donald
MacGillivray presiding. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, St.
Joseph's at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the
Canadian Cancer Society or to Cathy's Place Cancer Resource Room.
