Layes
(MacDonald),
Katherine Ann Elizabeth ,
age 71, of Merland, Antigonish County. It is with heavy hearts we
announce the passing of our dear mother Kathy, after a short battle
with cancer in St.Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish on
May 18, 2019.
She lived with COPD for several years,
but it didn’t stop her from living a full life enjoying the
things she loved.
Born in Inverness, she was the
daughter of the late Francis "Boom" and Veronica Rose
(Poirier) MacDonald and step father, the late Ira
Colborne.
Kathy moved to Merland as a young
mother, where she met the love of her life, Alex. She raised three
children and was second mother to many of the neighbourhood children.
Her home was always open and she welcomed everyone in, whether it was
for a cup of tea, a hand of crib or a good conversation. Kathy enjoyed
singing kareoke, watching her humming birds, being outdoors in her
garden or inside working on her crafts. She looked forward to Saturday
afternoon radio bingo and hanging out with her
‘besties’, Rosemary Wallace and Aileen
Layes.
She is survived by her daughter,
Tammy; two sons, Dwayne (Shannon) and Jeff; grandchildren: Timmy
(Krista), Stefan (Crissy), Kristian, Lesley, Tyler, Shawn, Haley
(Greg), Taylor, Adam, Jesse and Willow; great grandchildren: Twyla,
Maxine, Jace and Paisley; sisters: Marie (Brian); Irene (Roger);
Ardyth (Tom); brothers: Ivan (Patti), Wayne(Lauralee) and several
nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her first
husband, Allan Currie and second husband Alex Layes; sister, Veronica;
brother in infancy, Francis; son in law, John Allan Wallace; brothers
in law, Bobby Bowie and Herbie Scott; sisters in law Marilyn and
Carolyn Wallace and Shirley Layes
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry
