It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Susan Isabel Matthews of Antigonish on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish at the age of 55.

Born in Inverness, she was a daughter of the late William "Billy" and Mae (MacArthur) Matthews.

Susan had a great love of the outdoors – biking, snowshoeing, walking, and hiking.  She enjoyed spending time with her close friends in Antigonish and will be greatly missed by her dog, Maddie.

Susan is survived by her only son, Kyle (Anne), whom she loved dearly; sisters, Cathy Matthews (AJ), Port Hood, and Donna (Duncan) MacLennan, River Denys; brother, Artie (Joanie), West Bay Road; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Predeceased by maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Isabelle MacArthur, paternal grandparents, Russell and Maudie Matthews, and a brother in infancy.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Funeral service will be held Tuesday in St. James United Church, Antigonish, at 11:00am, Reverend Peter Smith presiding.  Burial in Upper River Denys Cemetery.

Family flowers only, please.  In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation or Keppoch Mountain appreciated.  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses, and the EHS critical care team who worked so hard and gave Susan exceptional care, and for the kindness shown to all her family and friends at the most critical time.
