Purcell, Anne Winnifred, age 72, Antigonish, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2019 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Fougere) DeCoste.

Anne worked as a CNA at St. Martha’s Hospital for thirty-eight years. In retirement she volunteered, with her husband Bernie, at the Breakaway Cafe, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Knitting needles were seldom out of Anne’s hands. She generously shared her knitting skills with the Afternoon Knitting Group, Antigonish Manor and cherished her times with her family and friends, especially her five grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of forty-five years, Bernie; sons: Paul (Marsha) and Barry (Jane Anne); grandchildren: John, Isla, Charlie, Kate and Alex; sisters and brothers: Elaine Porter, Waterdown, ON; Inez (Wayne) Johnson, Lower Sackville: Louise Myette, Tracadie; Gerard (Bonnie) DeCoste, Havre Boucher; Jean (Rod) Campbell, Sydney; Ralph DeCoste, Tracadie and Andy DeCoste (Madonna), East Tracadie.

She was predeceased by her parents, Irene and Charlie DeCoste; sister, Karen DeCoste; nephew, Jonathan DeCoste and brothers in law, Owen Porter and Jackie Myette.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Chiasson, Dr. Mike MacKenzie, Amy Bray-Campbell and the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit for their care and kindness during Anne’s illness.

Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held in St Ninian Cathedral on Saturday at 11:00 am with Reverend John Barry presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
