Greene, M. Wayne – Lochaber
It is with great sadness we announce the death of Melvin Wayne Greene, age 73, of Lochaber on July 7th at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Wayne was born in New Glasgow to the late Margaret (Greene) MacDougall and was raised in East River, St. Mary’s. Wayne and his wife Gloria raised their daughters in Lochaber, and he was looking forward to celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with his family later this month.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator for most of his life, retiring from the Department of Transportation in 2005. Dad had a great sense of humour and enjoyed teasing and carrying on with family and friends. He was an active volunteer in the Lochaber community and enjoyed playing cards, going to concerts and car shows, traveling around the Maritimes, and especially spending time with his family at the cottage.
During his 5 years with cancer, Dad received excellent care from the dedicated nurses and doctors from 4th floor Hematology at the VG, Halifax; St. Martha’s, Antigonish; and recently the orthopedic unit at the Aberdeen, New Glasgow. We thank them for their care and compassion.
He is survived by his wife Gloria (MacDonald); daughters, Alison Clapperton, Antigonish; Robyn (Dan Tully), Truro; Kerri (Jason Penney), Grand Lake; grandchildren, Jack, Ellie, Sara, Elise; family members, Marion, Anna, Grace, Jimmy; and a large extended family.
Predeceased by his mother Margaret (Greene) MacDougall; her husband, Everette MacDougall; grandmother, Mary (Mosher) Greene and grandfather, William Greene.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at 11:00am in St. Ninian Cathedral. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Lochaber.
In Memoriam, donations to the Lochaber Community Centre or Cathy’s Place appreciated.
