MacPherson,
Veronica, age 87, of
William’s Point, Antigonish County passed away on October 7,
2019 surrounded by her children in the supportive
and caring Palliative Care Unit of St Martha’s Regional
Hospital, Antigonish.
Born
in Wood’s Island, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late
Joseph and Gertrude (Hickey)
Hynes.
Veronica worked in food preparation at St
Martha’s Hospital for many years. Among the things she
enjoyed were swimming at St. F.X pool, walking, playing cards, and
doing sudokos. Veronica always called ‘a spade a
spade’, but she had a heart of gold. She faithfully
sponsored three children through the Chalice program and was a
wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was
an active member of St. Ninian’s CWL. While
William’s Point was her home, Veronica was a proud
Newfoundlander and never forgot her roots.
She
was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survived by
children: Martina (Dave) Kelly, Antigonish; Mary (Buckie) Bowman,
Afton; Wayne (Cindy) MacPherson, Shubenacadie; Cory MacPherson,
William’s Point; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great
grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Joe "Sam"
MacPherson, son, Darryl; grandson, Christopher; brothers Pat and Jack;
sisters: Min, Liz, Dorothy and
Anne.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135
College Street, Antigonish on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass
will be in St. Ninian Cathedral on Saturday at 11:00 am with
Reverend Doug MacDonald presiding. Burial in the parish
cemetery.
