The Gillis Family of Ohio regrets to announce the sudden passing of our brother William "Billy" Gillis. Billy passed away peacefully on October 15, 2019 in the Palliative Care Unit at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, at the age of 65. Billy was formerly of Cross Roads Ohio, then College Street, Antigonish and finally R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.

Billy was a graduate of CRVS, Port Hawkesbury and employee of Michelin Tire. Billy became a quadriplegic at the age of 20 and despite his disability, Billy enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed food and spending time with his friends and family. He loved his trips and chats on Main Street, playing cards, visitors, and family get togethers.

He was a son of the late Hugh Duncan and Anne (MacDonell) Gillis, and was predeceased by his brother Joseph.

Billy is survived by brothers, John Hugh (Lorelle), Gasperaux Lake; Calum, Purl Brook; Tommy (Tracy), Saltsprings; sisters, Mary (Andy) MacDonald, Heatherton; Katy (Frank) Pavelski, Massachusetts; Sarah Gillis (Joe MacLean), Ohio; Margaret (Stephen) MacKenzie, Antigonish; Lois Gillis (Tim Leigme); sister in law, Marie Gillis, Ohio; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Visitation in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Mass in St. Joseph’s Church, St. Joseph’s on Friday at 1:00 pm with Father Lazarus presiding. Burial in the Parish Cemetery.

Sincere thanks to all his caregivers over the years. Special thanks to the staff of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, and to Dr. Eckart and Dr. Sturmy.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home Foundation. Online condolences; www.clcurry.com.
