It is with great sadness that we are announcing the sudden, tragic passing of our mother and grandmother on Saturday, October 12, 2019.

Born in Guysborough, she was a daughter of the late John "Jack" and Odessa (Borden) Pelley.

Helen was a kind and loving person who was always willing to give a helping hand.  She enjoyed a good laugh and her bingo games.  In her spare time, you could find her on her morning walk, knitting, reading, baking, or out to dinner with her son, Jahnyia.  Her baking sure will be missed, especially her molasses cookies.  Helen moved to Montreal in 1963, where she met the love of her life, Eugene, and they were married on July 23, 1966.  Helen was employed by the Salvation Army Nursing Home as a nurse’s aid, and she also worked at various other jobs.  Helen moved back to Antigonish in 1993, where she an active member of St. James United Church, and she continued following her passion for caring for clients, retiring in 2015.

She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Jimmy) George; and son, Jahnyia Sampson, both of Antigonish; grandchildren, Latitia and Channelle; friend, Glen Cromwell; sister, Delores (Gerald) Pelly; brother Harold (Lillian) Pelly; sisters-in-law, Vera, Melba, Polly, and Lillian; and her two fur-babies, Jazz and Jade.

Predeceased by her husband, Eugene; daughter, Eva; brothers, Joseph, Douglas, and Claire; sisters-in-law, Madeline, Eleanor, Lois, and Etty; and brothers-in-law, Herman, Reg, Stanley, Elroy, and Lawrence.

Cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be held Saturday from 2 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00pm in St. James United Church, Reverend Peter Smith presiding.  Burial in St. James/St. Paul Cemetery.

In Memoriam, donations to L’Arche Antigonish, St. James United Church, or a charity of your choice appreciated.  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com
