It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Evelyn Theresa (Gallant) MacAdam of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Born in Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia on April 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred Laurier and Bridget Cathleen (MacDonald) Gallant.
Evelyn died peacefully at Parkland Retirement Home in Antigonish on January 9, 2020, in her 92nd year, surrounded by her loving and devoted children.
Evelyn will always be remembered as a devoted, hard working and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She touched our lives with love and kindness and she will be forever cherished in our hearts. Evelyn lived her life to the fullest and she was most happy spending time with family and friends, bowling, dancing, gardening, knitting and traveling. In her younger years, she actively supported her children’s activities in highland dancing competitions and in many sporting activities. Evelyn was also an active member of the Catholic Women’s League ("CWL") for many years. She was the backbone of the family, always selfless, and provided strength, guidance, love and ongoing support and encouragement throughout her life, to her husband and to her children. She treasured her family and she especially loved her role as Nana and Grandnana. We will always remember her beautiful smile, her warmth and kindness, her generosity and witty charm, but mostly her loving devotion to her husband, Alex and to her children. A mother’s love is like no other.
Evelyn will be sorely missed by her children, Gary (Pauline) (Edmonton), Kevin (late Nancy) (Prince Edward Island), Brenda (Bernie) Chisholm (Antigonish), Patsy (Mike) MacIsaac (Antigonish), Greg (Valerie) (Halifax), Nancy (Rob) Dunphy (Antigonish), Donna (Paul) Richardson (Kingston), David (Fern) (Halifax), Audrey (Jamie) Strathdee (Toronto). Evelyn was adored by her 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is survived by sisters Irene (late Leo) Roach and Marie (Mickey) MacKenzie.
Besides her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Alexander Joseph MacAdam in December 2018, and her brothers Eldie Gallant, Thoryl (Laura) Gallant, and sisters Shirley Gallant, Marianita (Fred) MacNeil, Mary Agnes "Nadie" (William) Cooke and Mary Remegius "Megie" (Camille) Botte.
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, N.S., on Sunday, January 12, 2020, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 1:00 pm at St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Donald MacGillivray presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyn’s name to be made to a charity of your choice. Interment will take place at the parish cemetery at a later date. Evelyn’s family would like to thank Dr. P. J. McKenna, Dr. P. Cooper and the entire staff of Parkland Retirement Home for their kind and compassionate care of Evelyn in her final days.
