Wayne Francis Austen
Austen, Wayne Francis, age 73, of Antigonish passed away on February 2, 2020, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Whycocomagh, he was a son of the late Manton and Lillian (Gillis) Austen.
An active member of the Lions’ Club, Sunrise Masonic Lodge and St. James United Church, Wayne was an avid volunteer in the community. He graduated Mabou High School and completed his B.BA at St. FX in 1968. He was a career public servant and took pride in serving his community both through his professional and volunteer work.
Wayne was devoted to his family. He was a very loving husband and will always be remembered as a great Dad and Grampie.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Mary (MacLean), and children, Tammy (Gavin) Murphy, Fall River; Todd (Lori), Nepean; Trevor (Kimberley Anne), Lake Echo; and Trent, New Minas; grandchildren, Ryan & Evan Murphy, Cameron & Oscar Austen, Lilly and Isabel Austen, and Maggie Austen; and his brothers David (Marianne), Antigonish; John (Madeline), Fort McMurray, AB; and Milford (Judy), Antigonish, and their families.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Funeral service will be held Thursday in St. James United Church at 2:00pm with Reverend Peter Smith presiding. Burial in St. James/St. Paul Cemetery at a later date.
