Our
mother, Jean Emiline (MacDonald) MacPherson, died peacefully at her
home in Whidden Park, Antigonish, in her 103rd year, on May 18, 2020.
Born and raised in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, she was the eldest child of
the late Neil and Isabel (MacAdam) MacDonald.
She
was immensely proud of her Cape Breton roots. Mom was the last
surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was
predeceased by her husband, Joseph "Percy" (1972); and her
siblings, Vera, Allister, and Doris.
She is
survived by her children, Sharon, Vera (late James) Gardner, Beverley,
Deborah, Mary (Ernie Gillespie), Joseph (Melissa Moar), Norman
(Patricia), Allister, Karl (Marilyn), and Dodie (Juanita Rossignol);
grandchildren, Emily (Luc Poirier), Maria, Sean, Heather, Jeffrey, and
Mairi (Ivan Perez); and great grandchildren, Liam and Liliane; as well
as many nieces and nephews.
Mom
enjoyed her time working at the StFX Library, where she made many
lasting friendships. She was a member of a loyal group of
handcrafters, who met regularly for years. She and her friend Helen
were well-known for their daily walks to the mall, rain or shine,
until Mom was well into her 90's. All ten children, with their
families, gathered to celebrate her 100th birthday. What a
blessing!
Thank
you to Dr Mary Gorman for her support.
There
will be a private family funeral and burial service.
If
desired, memorial donations can be made to Antigonish VON, Mass for
Shut-Ins or St. Ninian's Cemetery Care. Funeral arrangements are under
