It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of our mother, Adriana Van Oirschot, at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish, on June 22, 2020.

Mom was born in Schyndel, Holland, on June 26, 1934.

Left to mourn are her five children, Anne Marie (Andy) Horne, Enfield; Jerry (Bonnie), Ashdale; Audrey (Keith) Dewar, Prince Edward Island; Frances (Marc) Gallant, Hammonds Plains; and Mike (Sandy), Ashdale.  Loving Oma to 14 grandchildren whom she loved dearly:  Ian, Adam, Garett, Blair, Nancy, Kyla, Stephanie, Courtenay, Scott, Lauren, Kathryn, Ryan, Carson, Tyler, and 14 great grandchildren. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Anne (late Joe) Van Oirschot and Ida (John) Vermeer, Pleasant Valley, Antigonish County, many nieces and nephews, and "the smartest dog in the world", Harley.

Predeceased by her husband, Bill (2016), her parents, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

Mom immigrated to Canada in 1954 with her husband, Bill. They lived in Lanark for a short time before starting a dairy farm in Ashdale.  She was an integral part of the operation, continuing to milk dairy cows into her mid-sixties.  Mom was proud of her many accomplishments, in particular her quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, and the wonderful meals she shared with us all over the years.  She would tackle any project put before her – carpentry, electrical, and any repairs needing to be done.  She was known for her beautiful flower gardens and would often be seen pushing her wheelbarrow around the yard in 90-degree weather.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 10am to 12 noon in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish, and all visitors will be expected to adhere to the province’s social distancing protocols.  A private family funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00pm.  Please click this link to view:
