CORMIER, THERESA MARIE, 92, of the R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish and formerly of Sylvan Valley and Williams Point, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2020 at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.

Born in Williams Point on October 19, 1927, she was the youngest of the late Samuel and Rebecca (MacLean) MacPherson’s 16 children and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a member of St. Ninian Cathedral Parish and a member of the CWL for 74 years.  She was a homemaker most of her life, raising her family on several Canadian Air Force bases across Canada and in Germany.  Upon her husband Frank’s retirement in 1971, they returned to Williams Point.  She then worked for several years at the R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home as a Nurses’ Aide and volunteered for many years at the CWL Opportunity Shop and with the Antigonish Lioness Club.  All her life, she enjoyed visiting friends and relatives, lively music, and an enthusiastic game of cards.  She was most proud of her Scottish heritage.

She is survived by children: Michael (Patricia Raiche), Winter Harbour, BC; Deborah (Robert) Wood, Waterloo, ON; Valerie (Sandy) Cormier-Cole, Windsor, ON; Richard, ON; and Frank (Debbie), Antigonish, NS.  Grandchildren; Bill Cormier (Cassandra Martin), Riverview, NB; Emma Cormier (Meghan Steacy), Ottawa, ON; Valerie Wood (Daniel Lovsted), Ottawa, ON; and Matthew Wood (Sarah Madison), Waterloo, ON;  Tammy (Matthew MacLeod), Vicki and Calvin Cormier-Cole, Windsor, ON; Jennifer, AB and Jessica Cormier, BC;  Nathan (Karen), Jenna (Jeremiah MacKay) and Devin (Nicole Grace) Cormier, Antigonish, NS; and great-grandchildren: Danielle, Elise, Jacob, Lilly, Khloe, Caleb, Emilee, Elizabeth, Wyatt, Victoria.

She is predeceased by husband, Frank; grandson, Justin "Scoopy" Cormier; brothers: Alex, Harvey, Joe, Roddie, Jimmy, Louis, Alphonsus; sisters: Mamie Wood, Mary Gilbert, Margaret Garish and Veronica; plus four other siblings at a young age.

Remains are resting in C. L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish with visitation on Sunday, July 5th from 2-4 and 7-9.  Visitors will be expected to respect the guidelines for social distancing set out by the province of Nova Scotia. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 6th at 11 AM, St. Ninian Place, Antigonish, Rev. Donald MacGillivray presiding, with limited seating available due to COVID restrictions.  A recording of the funeral will be available on the funeral home website shortly after the service.  Burial to follow in St. Ninian Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their deepest thanks and gratitude to Drs. Hickey and Steeves, the staff of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home and of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital for their professional and compassionate care of Theresa over the past few years.
