Mattie, Barry Lee
Gerard, age 51, of Antigonish formerly of
Tracadie, passed away on August 1, 2020 in St. Martha’s
Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Antigonish, he was
the son of the late Pius Vincent and Barbara Ellen (Myette)
Mattie.
Barry worked in
maintenance at St. Augustine’s Monastery, Mary Lake, King
City, Ontario for many years. He moved back home ten years ago and
worked in the area as a painter. Barry enjoyed picking blueberries,
picking brush, and digging clams. He was an avid shopper, always
looking for good deals. He was known as "the candy man". He
had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He will be
remembered as a kind hearted person who would do anything for
anyone.
He is survived by five
sisters: Norma
(Billy) White,
Pomquet; Delima (John) Gottschall, Glenn Road; Theresa (Kevin)
MacCulloch, Kenzieville; Hazel (Gerard) Tate, Mattie
Settlement; Thelma
(Danny) MacGillivray, Tracadie; God child Tyler MacCulloch and many
nieces and nephews.
He was
predeceased by his
parents Barbara and Pius Mattie; brother,
Sammie and sister in law, Elaine Myette.
Cremation has taken place.
A private family funeral will be held at a later
date.
