It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family of Diane Lena Pero, age 76 of Antigonish announce her passing on September 2nd in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born in Mill Creek, Cape Breton she was the daughter of the late Alex and Elizabeth (Moore) Pero.  Diane is survived by her sisters, Anne (late George) Boutilier, Antigonish; Colleen (late Dave) Bona, North Sydney; and brother, Bill (late Audrey) Pero, Sydney Mines; and brother-in-law, Steve Green, Antigonish.  She is also survived by her nephews, Vernon, George "J.R.", and Bob Boutilier, Geoffrey Bona; and niece, Elizabeth Ann Green, all of whom she loved dearly like her own as well as many other nieces and nephews.  Also left to morn are special great-nieces, Allyson and Kristyn Boutilier and great-nephews, Bryden Boutilier and Dante Bona.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Marie Green; and her nephew, Alex Green.

Diane was employed in security at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital for 25 years, where she made numerous lifelong friendships especially with many of the Sisters of St. Martha. She was actively involved in the Highland Housing Co-op and was a past volunteer at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home and the VON.

Diane loved the outdoors, spending time fishing, hunting, and gardening. She also loved baking, knitting, and doing numerous other crafts.  She also enjoyed spending many hours at the rink watching Bryden, Allyson and Kristyn playing hockey.  Diane endured a lot over the years but was tough showing her profound strength right to the end.  She loved to put smiles on people’s faces and was as sassy as they come.  She believed in "telling it like it is", was honest and fearless but above all loved deeply those that were special to her.  Diane had a very kind heart and we will miss her dearly.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank-you to all that cared for Diane over the years, especially the kind and compassionate staff of 3rd and 4th floor St. Martha’s.

No visitation by request.  Funeral Mass will be held Monday in St. Ninian Cathedral at 2:00pm, with Reverend Donald MacGillivray and Reverend Bill Crispo presiding.  Burial in the parish cemetery.  Social distancing protocols must be followed, and masks are mandatory.  Attendees will be asked to provide their name and contact information at the church.

Family flowers only.  In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Diane may be made to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Home, Antigonish.  Online condolences:  www.clcurry.com
