Note;  Mr. Ehler's funeral Mass is now available under the VIDEOS tab. We apologize for earlier connectivity issues from St. Peter’s Church.

Ehler, William Owen "Billy", age 72, of Afton, Antigonish County, passed away peacefully at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, on July 3, 2021, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Jim and Hilda (Wallace) Ehler.

Dad loved a simple life, content to stay close to home and go to his camp on the four-wheeler.  A hard worker and excellent provider, Dad always believed in saving for a rainy day.  A porter operator all his life, he loved coming home and telling Mom about the hill he hauled on today.

Left to mourn are his wife of almost 53 years, Doris (Bayers); his children, Paul (Donnette); Judy (David Guthro); and Amanda (Keith) MacDonald; grandchildren, Darren, Allissa, Ryan, Jeremy, Connor, Sawyer, Harlow, and Ramsey; brother, James; sister, Doris (Melvin) Layes; sisters-in-law, Joan Wallace and Judy Cameron; and brothers-in-law, Frank MacDonald and Cyril Bayers; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonsh.  Social distancing protocols are in place, and masks are mandatory.  Funeral Tuesday in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie, at 11:00am, Fr. John Barry presiding.  Due to COVID restrictions, space is limited, but the service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website.

Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Merland.

In Memoriam, donations to Cathy’s Place and appreciated.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at 4th floor Oncology and a special thanks to Heather Brander and the nurses of Palliative Care for the wonderful care and support they provided us.

As Dad would say, "Don’t forget, you have to eat after Christmas, too!"
