Scott, Anna "Rita", age 87 of Antigonish passed away peacefully with her family by her side, after a short illness at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish on Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Born in Antigonish on June 25, 1934, Rita was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Margaret (Greencorn) Farrell.

In her early years, Rita lived in Roman Valley, Guysborough County before moving to Antigonish where she lived all her adult life with much of it as a resident of St. Ninian’s Street.  She enjoyed meeting people and developed many lifelong friendships through her years working in food service in local restaurants including the Brigadoon, the Goshen Restaurant, Myers’s Tea Room, and in later years, Scott Catering, working alongside her family.

Rita was a loving and caring wife to Ron Lyall Scott for 50 years before he passed away in 2010. Rita is survived by three children Shaun (Heather), Chuck (Gwen), and Cheryl (Keith) MacCormick, all of Antigonish.  She was a very proud grandmother and is survived by eleven grandchildren, Adam (Jenn), Ryan, Robin, Jillian, Holly, Breanna, Corrine, Courtney, Kieran, Michael (Jody), and Lindsay, and three great grandchildren, Payton, Zoe, and Noah.  She shared a very close relationship with her siblings and is survived by sister Mae MacEachern, and brothers Joe, Seward (Mary Thelma) all of Antigonish, and Frank, Hamilton, ON, and several nieces and nephews.

Beside her husband and her parents, Rita was pre-deceased by her stepmother Eleanora (Pelrine) Farrell, brother, Francis "Gussie" Farrell, sisters Anne Arsenault and Della Farrell, twin sisters Lois and Rose, two brothers in infancy and her baby granddaughter, Ashley.

Rita enjoyed spending time with her friends and family throughout her life and until recently would never pass up an opportunity to visit friends, work in the garden, gather to play cards or go for a daily morning walk followed by coffee and conversation with her friends and family.  Mom was a faithful member of St. James United Church and attended service weekly throughout her life including virtual attendance during the pandemic. Nanny will be remembered mostly for her love and support of her family over the years as she provided a loving home where all were welcome and often a meal would be quickly pulled together to feed a crowd. She encouraged her children to pursue their goals and enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow over the years and followed them in their activities especially hockey, basketball, and Highland dancing.  Whenever there was a family event, Nanny would always bring her delicious biscuits and cookies which were always enjoyed and appreciated.  She will be missed by so many.

We would like to thank St. Martha’s Hospital and the RK MacDonald Nursing Home for the professional and compassionate care provided to our mother over the recent months.

Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm Thursday, September 2 in the C. L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Social distancing protocols are in place, and masks are mandatory.  Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 11:00 AM in St. James United Church, Main Street Antigonish with Rev. Doug Stewart presiding.  The funeral will be livestreamed on the funeral home’s website.

Family flowers only, please. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rita may be made to St. James United Church Antigonish (www.stjamesuc.com) St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation (www.smrhfoundation.com)  or charity of your choice. Online condolences: www.clcurry.com
