O’Neill, Elizabeth Ann
"Betty", BScN (St. FXU), Brierly Brook, a
youthful 83-year-old, passed away on September 21, 2022, with Mary by
her side, embraced by loving care in the Palliative Care Unit of St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
She was the
daughter of the late Mike and Anne (Reilly) O’Neill of
Sydney River.
Betty had a
wonderful, varied, and accomplished nursing career. She
cared deeply for patients, staff and students and found great joy and
satisfaction in teaching, leadership roles and obstetrics, including
Director of Nursing at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home,
Antigonish. She supported all local charities. She loved all
creatures great and small and delighted in
nature. She was president of the local SPCA for over
twenty-five years. She was an avid sports fan, especially hockey and
harness racing and was so sharp on all the stats.
She was the
last surviving member of her immediate family. She is
survived by her life-long and best friend, Mary Haley with whom she
shared many interesting adventures. The members of Mary’s
family treasured Betty and were proud and privileged to share her
life. She is also survived by many loving O’Neill
cousins and countless friends, to whom she was extremely
loyal.
