Power, John Joseph, age 90, The Maples, Antigonish, formerly of Larry’s River and St. John’s, Nfld, passed away in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital on March 1, 2023.

He was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (Cahill) Power.

Born and raised in St. Mary’s, Newfoundland, John was proud of his heritage.  He attended All Hallow's Seminary In Dublin Ireland before attending Memorial University, and then continuing his studies in Halifax, where he graduated from Dalhousie Dental School.

John’s working life was spent in Stephenville and St John’s, Newfoundland where he practiced dentistry and raised his family with Eileen by his side.  Before relocating to The Maples in Antigonish, he and Eileen spent many happy retirement years in Larry’s River, Guysborough County. Hunting and fishing was where he wanted to be in his younger years, and in later life he enjoyed gardening, oil painting, playing the accordion and interacting with friends in a game of bridge.

He is survived by his children: Joan (Carlos) Lorencez, Toronto; Michelle Power (Maurice Benchetrit), Toronto; John Power (Lisset Rios), Halifax; brother, Michael (Donna) Power, Nfld; sister: Bernadette (Michael) Alonge, Connecticut; grandchildren, Clara and Liam Bonnor; Daniel and Nicole Lorencez.

He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen (Pellerin); daughter, Karen; sister, Nellie Foster and brother, John St. Croix.
