Oliver, John Edwin, age 74, of Halifax passed away suddenly at home on April 7, 2024.

Born on August 4, 1949, in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia he was the son of the late Katherine (Tait) and Edwin Oliver

John embarked on his professional journey as a teller for The Bank of Nova Scotia in Stellarton, advancing through various roles across different positions in many places. Over the years, John and Connie established homes in San Francisco, Bermuda, Calgary, Toronto, and Chester, eventually retiring to Fox Harb’r, where John could indulge in his passion for golf. The last two years saw them settle in Halifax frequently traveling to Toronto to spend time with Matthew, Diana, Madeline, and Caden.

John and Connie made countless friendships over the years through their many moves and voyages. John always looked forward to adventures with his golf group, playing some of the most challenging and prestigious courses all over the world. John and Connie also formed some wonderful friendships through their Kalos golf trips and spent many happy times "cruising" with this fun group. Even when home, John was always planning their next trip.

John's legacy will endure for his deep love for family, unwavering motivation, resilient character, vast knowledge, passion for spirited debate, and generous support of others - particularly small communities, where he actively participated in various capacities. John loved spending time with the family dogs, finding joy in their playful antics and companionship. John's enthusiasm for cheering on the Montreal Canadiens sometimes stirred up discourses within his family, who were ardent supporters of the rival team.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Connie (Morrow); one son Matthew (Diana) and their two children Madeline and Caden; sister Helen (Vance) Dickson and their children Rob (Rhonda), Michael (Debbie), and Nicholas (Heather); brothers-in-law, Roland (Liz) Morrow; Terrance (Pam) Morrow and his son Greg (Suzanne); sister-in-law Lisa Morrow (Reggie) DeCoste and their son Michael (Brittany). Besides his parents, John was predeceased by father and mother-in-law, Hamilton and Abbie Morrow; brother-in-law, David Morrow, sister-in-law Tee Morrow; and nephews Peter Dickson and Scott Morrow.

A reception celebrating John’s life will be held at Pier 21 in Halifax, NS from 2:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, April 14, 2024.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 15, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.
