Hanway (nee Adams), Lois Dianne, 66, of Cape George, passed
away on July 13, 2014, at home following a courageous battle with
pancreatic cancer.
Born in
Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Ella (MacPhie)
Adams of Cape George.
Following graduation
from St. Andrew's Rural High School in 1967, Lois moved to
Halifax. She worked for several years for Physicians'
Services at the VG Hospital until her marriage in 1971. She
was a military wife (Signals) and became a stay-at-home mom until her
youngest child turned 13, then worked for Dr. Lynn Crosby, family
physician, as a receptionist for 11-1/2 years, a job she truly
loved. She and her husband, Tom, retired to Cape George and
built a home on land that was part of her Dad's family farm
overlooking beautiful St. George's Bay. In her retirement
years, Lois enjoyed doing volunteer work for the North Shore Volunteer
Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Cape George Heritage Museum, St.
David's United Church as secretary, the Hot Meals Program at St. James
United Church and the United Church Women.
She is survived by her husband, Tom; sons, James (Michelle), and
special grandson, Joel, Dartmouth, Adam, Halifax; daughter Elizabeth
(Ben) Jensen, Meaford, ON; siblings Allan (Ann) and Keith, Cape
George, Wayne (Stella), Lewisporte, NL, Kevin (Paulette), New Germany,
Karen Mahoney, Harbour Centre, Brian (Elaine), Pleasant Bay, Ellen
Cross, Antigonish, Gordon, Dartmouth, Roddy (Debbie) and Teddy (Jane),
Cape George; sisters-in-law, Pauline, Rocky Harbour, NL, Nellie,
Glovertown, NL, and Bonnie, Gander, NL; and many nieces, nephews,
grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Besides her
parents, she was predeceased by special brothers Forbes, Gary, and
Fred, nephews, Matthew, Chris, Mitch, and Todd; niece, Natalie;
brothers-in-law, Eddy Mahoney and Paul Cross.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will
be held Thursday in St. James United Church, Antigonish, at 11:00am,
Reverend Peter Smith presiding. Burial will take place in
St. David's Cemetery, Cape George.
