Duprey, Sister Gladys, formerly Sister Agnes Louise, 93, a
Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany, motherhouse on
Wednesday, September 10, 2014. She was in the 61st year of her
religious life.
Born in Westville N.S.,
Sister Gladys was one of five children of the late Angus and Jennie
(White) Duprey.
She entered the Congregation
of the Sisters of St. Martha in 1945 and made her perpetual profession
of vows 1956. Prior to entering the Congregation, Sister
Gladys did office work for several years following studies at Mount
St. Bernard College, Antigonish. In 1956, Sister Gladys
qualified as a Registered Medical Records Librarian, having completed
her studies at the Halifax Infirmary.
After her profession of vows, Sister spent most of her
life serving in general office work and as medical records
librarian. In Nova Scotia she ministered at St.
Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, and in Western Canada, Sister
Gladys served at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, SK, and the
Chancery Office, Kamloops, BC. She ministered as well at
Galilee Renewal Centre, Arnprior, ON. After retirement,
Sister Gladys assisted with various activities at the
motherhouse.
An avid walker, Sr. Gladys was a
devoted participant in the annual Terry Fox run.
Sister Gladys is survived by one brother George
(Florida). Besides her parents, Sister Gladys was predeceased by two
sisters, Genevieve and Sr. Raphael CSM and a brother Martin.
The remains will be resting at Bethany, beginning
Sunday, September 14, at 1:15 p.m. A Celebration of Vigil
will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian
Burial will take place on Monday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. in Bethany
chapel. Burial in Bethany Cemetery.
