Delaney, Mary Alena, 99, formerly of Lakevale, passed away
peacefully in the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home, Antigonish, on
September 16, 2014.
Born in Dunmaglass, Antigonish County, she was a daughter of
the late Daniel Ronald "D.R" and Catherine (Gillis)
MacGillivray.
Mary was a school teacher and homemaker and taught school in
several communities throughout Cape Breton and Eastern Nova
Scotia. Mary had a deep faith and in earlier years was an
active member of St. Columba Parish, Lakevale, and was a long-serving
member of the Catholic Women’s League.
She is loved and will be sadly missed by her five sons,
William (Patricia), Halifax, Gerard (Elaine), Merigomish, Martin (Mary
Jo), Dartmouth, Harold (Brenda), Springhill, and Pete (Irma),
Lakevale; seven grandchildren, Jim (Arlene), Ottawa, Susan (Stephan
Hoddinott), Dartmouth, Colleen (Angus Taylor), Calgary, Christa
(Trevor Sanders), Ottawa, Dawn (Huy Nguyen), Calgary, Michael (Laura),
Halifax, and Sarah, Fredericton; ten great-grandchildren; sister,
Margaret MacLellan, Cloverville, Antigonish County; and brother,
Charles, Mississauga, Ontario.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James
B. "Jim"; sisters, Katherine Stewart and Teresa MacDonald;
brothers, Donald, John, Alexander, and Bernard; and daughter-in-law,
Connie (MacEachern) Delaney.
Special thanks to the
staff at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home and her personal caregivers
for their loving care.
Visitation will be held Friday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home,
135 College Street, Antigonish, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm.
Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11:00am in St. Columba Church,
Lakevale, with Reverend Evo DiPierro presiding. Burial in
the parish cemetery.
