Wilkie, Mary Isabel, 89, of
Tracadie passed away on November 18, 2014, in Milford Haven Home for
Special Care, Guysborough.
Born in Salmon River, she was a daughter of the late Andrew
and Margaret (MacPherson) Markie.
Mary worked as a hairdresser until she married Roland
"Rolly" Wilkie in 1946. She and Rolly operated the Hillside
Restaurant in Tracadie for many years. Shortly after Rolly's death she
moved to Halifax where she ran a rooming house. Upon returning to
Antigonish, she rented a couple of properties in town. Mary returned
to Tracadie after retiring and enjoyed playing cards, knitting, and
watching her soaps.
She is survived by her children, Jimmy, Alberta and Anita
(David) Mattie, Monastery; grand children: Chad, Trina, and Marlee;
cousin Annabelle Kennedy, Giants Lake.
Predeceased by her husband Roland; son Leonard
"Lennie" and daughter Linda, both in infancy; brothers,
John, Jim, and Tom; sisters, Anne Doucette and Catherine
Maloney.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m on Thursday November
20th in St. Peter's Place, Tracadie. Funeral
Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter's Church on Friday at 11:00 a.m
with Fr. John Barry presiding. Cremation to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society or
St. Peter's Parish Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction
