Ferguson, Mary Patricia "Pat", 87, of Braemore Ave, Antigonish, passed away on January 12, 2015, surrounded by her family.

Born in Dominion, Cape Breton in 1927, she was a daughter of the late Michael Daniel and Elizabeth (McNeil) Dunn.

Pat graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1948 and began her nursing career at St. Mary’s Hospital in Inverness where she met and married Roderick Ferguson. In 1967, Pat and Rod moved to Antigonish where she then accepted a nursing position at St. Martha’s Hospital, spending 25 years caring for newborn babies in the Nursery. Pat was a member of the Inverness Catholic Women’s League (CWL) and later St. Ninian CWL and Club 60.

Pat was a woman of quiet strength, humility, compassion, and generosity, whose greatest joy came from giving to others. Known to her family as "Ma" and "Nannie", she touched many with her kindnesses and good cheer. It is hard to imagine a world without her. We miss you already.

Pat is survived by her children Beth (Don Hodder) and Cathy (Paul Gavin) St. Andrews, Antigonish Co., Gerard (Joan), Mabou, Trisha (Charles Conrad), Halifax, John (Cathy) and Allan, Antigonish. She is also survived by 13 grand children, 7 great-grand children, one great-great-grand child and brothers Francis and Joseph, New Brunswick, Gerard, Cold Lake, Alberta, and Tony, Dominion, Cape Breton.

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Roderick; her sisters Tillie (Omar Dauphine), Dominion, Cape Breton, Margaret Molesky, Red Deer, Alberta; a brother Michael and a daughter, Mary Patricia in infancy.

Visitation will be held. from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Thursday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish.  Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 11 am in St. Ninian’s Cathedral with Fr. John Barry presiding. Burial in St. Ninian’s Cemetery at a later date.

Family flowers only, please . In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory may be made to the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Nursery, Cobblestone Unit of the RK MacDonald Nursing Home, or a charity of your choice.

Special thanks to the staff of Cobblestone Unit, RK MacDonald Nursing Home, Phyllis, Anne Marie and finally Sharon who provided special care and companionship for Ma during her illness.
