It is with heavy hearts that we announce the
peaceful passing of Tom MacIntosh, age 93, on January 13, 2015 at St.
Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Waternish, he was the son of Gordon Murdoch
MacIntosh and Marie (Whidden) MacIntosh.
After graduation from high school in Stillwater, he
enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in September 1940 as a Medic.
During WWII he toured on Red Cross Ships and Destroyers to England,
Norway, Denmark, Sweden, France, Russia, Scotland, Wales, Iceland, New
York, Boston and Newfoundland, returning home in September, 1945. Tom
then attended the Canadian Vocational Training Centre in Halifax and
graduated as an electrician in 1948. Tom was employed by Nova Scotia
Power Corporation and retired as area supervisor after 33 years. Tom
enjoyed his retirement to the fullest fishing and hunting here and in
Newfoundland, ski-dooing, 4-wheeling and trapping while enjoying
nature and in his later years travelling, he especially enjoyed his
cruise to Alaska. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian
Legion Branch #86, Liscomb.
He was loved and survived by his daughter, Linda
MacIntosh, Sherbrooke; sons: Wayne (Gwen) MacIntosh, Stillwater;
Gerald (Bettina) MacIntosh, Stillwater; stepsons, Kenneth MacIntosh,
Havre Boucher and Jerome (Violet) Julian, Sonora; grandchildren:
Amanda Jones, Kelowna, BC; Kelly (Brian) Kellough, Antigonish;
Dwayne MacIntosh, Ontario; Candace MacIntosh, Halifax;
Samantha MacIntosh, Halifax; James MacIntosh, Alberta; Deanna (Tom)
Rose, Halifax; great grandchildren: Jessica MacNeil, Braden Kellough
and Brianna Kellough, Elena MacIntosh; sister, Margaret MacIntosh,
Sherbrooke; sister in law, Gloria MacIntosh, Waternish and nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by wife
Genevieve (Walsh) MacIntosh; daughter Donna Darlene MacIntosh in
infancy; first wife, Ethel (Whidden) MacIntosh Gallagher; brothers:
Arnold (Joyce) MacIntosh, Russell MacIntosh; sisters: Shirley (Bill)
Gardner, Joan Provost; brother in law, Lawrence
McAllister.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation at St John
United Church, Sherbrooke, January 30,2015, from
7-9
Funeral Service at St. John United Church,
January 31, 2015, at 2pm with reception in church basement
following service.
Burial in Waternish-Stillwater
Cemetery.
We are grateful for the fine care he received while
in the Veterans Unit at St. Martha's Hospital and extend heartfelt
"thanks" to all who made his stay as comfortable as it could
be.
