Connolly, Jerome Francis, age 66, of North
Grant.
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Jerome Connolly
announce the passing of their loving son, brother, husband, father,
and grandfather at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish, on
Sunday, February 8, 2015.
Born in Antigonish, Jerome was the eldest child of Kenneth
and Margaret (O'Connor) Connolly of Guysborough
Intervale.
Jerome was a 1970 and 1972 graduate of St. Francis Xavier
University and a retired teacher (2005) having taught in the one-room
school in Boylston, MacPherson Elementary in Antigonish, and HM
MacDonald School in Maryvale over his 33 year career. After his
retirement, he worked as a psychiatric nursing attendant at St.
Martha's Hospital. Those who knew Jerome will remember him as a kind
and true friend who loved to laugh and tell a story. His favourite
pastimes included family card games, bluegrass festivals, and reading.
He was also an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed golf and
snowmobiling. Jerome was a skilled guitar player and often shared his
love of music at seniors' homes, community concerts, and with his
musician friends. Jerome was a member of St. Mary's Choir in Maryvale
and a member of the Antigonish Town and County Palliative Care
Society.
Jerome will be missed by his loving and dedicated family,
including his wife of 42 years, Rose (Chisholm, née
Kennedy); children, Michael (Diane) Chisholm, Antigonish, Wayne
Chisholm, Qatar, Brian (Anita) Chisholm, Antigonish, Noella (Kelly)
Bossio, Jasper, AB, Donalda (Leo) MacDougall, Antigonish, Shauna
(Dale) Chokan, Barrie, ON, Janice (James) Duggan, Qatar, Ian (Heather)
Connolly, Spruce Grove, AB; parents, Kenneth and Margaret Connolly,
brothers, Philip (Mary), Guysborough Intervale, and Martin,
Antigonish; sister-in-law, Maxine Connolly, Guysborough Intervale;
sisters, Theresa Connolly, Saint John, NB, Dorothy (Joe) Delorey,
Linwood, Joanne (John) Davis, Connecticut, Laura (Charlie) Gabriel,
Lower Sackville, and Alice (Art) Embree, Cole Harbour. He was also
loved and will be remembered by his 18 grandchildren and many nieces
and nephews.
Predeceased by sister, Virginia Clare, and brother, Peter
James.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9pm and Thursday
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College
Street Antigonish. Funeral Mass Friday in St. Ninian Cathedral at
11:00am. Burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryvale.
